Position Description

The Laboratory Manager will assist in management of day-to-day operations of a laboratory, conduct experiments on their own research project, and help other members of the laboratory conducted and analyze experiments. The laboratory is located on the beautifully renovated 17th floor of the Biomedical Science Tower and is part of the Division of Cardiology and the Vascular Medicine Institute.. The successful candidate will take part in translational research studying mechanisms regulating human vascular calcification and vascular disease remodeling.

The incumbent will have the opportunity to work independently as well as assist lab members with the design and planning of protocols, and conducting molecular, biochemical and cloning experiments. The incumbent will be required to handle mice, including breeding and genotyping, as well as assisting with in vivo animal experiments. Advanced skills such as oral gavaging and intra-peritoneal injections, are highly desirable.

The incumbent will be in charge of coordinating lab purchases of supplies, reagents, animals, and equipment for the lab, and help to ensure that the lab is running smoothly. The incumbent will also assist in the preparation of regulatory documents (e.g. – animal and biosafety protocols), of grants, and of manuscripts. Additional responsibilities will include, monitoring grant budgets, receiving and organizing orders and biological samples from outside the lab, maintaining the inventory of the mouse colony, maintaining cell cultures of primary murine and human cells, helping with upkeep of the laboratory’s website, and training junior lab members in lab protocols and procedures.

The successful candidate will be self-motivated, passionate, organized, have good interpersonal and leadership skills, have excellent verbal and written English skills, and have a solid base of knowledge of advanced scientific principles.

Additional Education and/or Experience Essential to the Position

A minimum of Bachelors Degree in Biology, Biochemistry or related field, or equivalent experience is required; Master’s preferred.

Further advanced education (e.g. Masters/PhD) in relevant area would strengthen the application; salary and title is commensurate with experience.

A minimum 2-3 years experience in laboratory research with knowledge of biologic science and acceptable scientific research training, prior experience in animal research required.
