Position Description

The University of Pittsburgh’s Computing Services and Systems Development (CSSD) Department is seeking a Network Manager. This high-level technical management position in the Infrastructure Division is responsible for managing the planning, analysis, design, and maintenance of the University’s data and voice network as well as the supervision of the Network engineering team that performs engineering, operations, and administration of the University enterprise network. The manager is responsible for operations of the data and voice network, responding to alerts and faults generated by the Network Operations Center (NOC) monitoring systems, investigating each problem to determine its cause, and taking appropriate steps to resolve faults as quickly as possible on a proactive basis. When the outages or network performance problems occur that are observable by the University community, this position will determine the root cause of the outage and oversee the resolution and documentation of the problem. This position reports to the Director of IT Infrastructure.

The NOC is located off-campus at RIDC Park and is staffed 24×7×365 to continuously monitor critical enterprise-wide systems and services. This position requires extensive technical experience in a multi-platform, large, and networked environment.

Additional Education and/or Experience Essential to the Position

A Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Science, or related field with extensive technical systems knowledge is preferred; Or equivalent years of experience. The incumbent must have strong technical management skills and experience with high-performance computing. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required. He/she must have a minimum of five years of management experience in a technical environment, preferably in an academic setting or ten years’ experience working in 24/7 operations in a large, multi-platform, networked environment.

Required Licenses/Certifications

Cisco CCNA certification required, Cisco CCNP or CCIE certification desirable.

Child Protection Clearances

The following PA Act 153 clearances and background checks may be required prior to commencement of employment and as a condition of continued employment: PA State Police Criminal Record Check, FBI Criminal Record Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance.
