Position Description

The University of Pittsburgh’s Conflict of Interest (COI) Office is seeking a qualified Compliance Coordinator. This position supports the functions and activities of the COI Office and Committee surrounding the identification and management of conflicts of interest related to research, teaching, and administrative activities at the University of Pittsburgh arising primarily from the financial interests of the University and/or its employees or students in outside entities.

A significant part of the position’s responsibilities involve assisting in maintaining compliance with the Public Health Service regulations on Responsibility of Applicants for Promoting Objectivity in Research for Which PHS Funding Is Sought and Responsible Prospective Contractors (42 CFR, part 50, Subpart F and 45 CFR, Part 94, respectively), including COI Committee (COIC) analyses as to whether disclosed Significant Financial Interests (SFIs) constitute Financial Conflicts of Interest (FCOIs) with federally-funded research and retrospective reviews of research studies in which undisclosed conflicts or non-compliance with management plans has been identified.

The employee will report to the Co-Associate Director of the COI Office. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: assisting in the development COI management plans and responsibility for monitoring compliance; monitoring disclosures in COI database; tracking open items and follow-up actions for COI Committee business; assisting in preparing COI Committee meeting minutes; assisting the COIC in its analysis of SFIs with federal research and monitoring compliance with federal COI regulations; gathering and organizing information for retrospective reviews of research projects; assisting members of the University community with use of online reporting systems; fielding general inquiries to the Office; and participating in educational and training sessions for the University community.

This position requires analytic thinking and strong written and oral communication skills. The employee must have the ability to work independently after receiving information and guidance from COI Office Co-Associate Director and exercise good judgment in requesting assistance.

Minimum Related Experience Level Required 1-2 years experience
Additional Education and/or Experience Essential to the Position

High proficiency with Microsoft Office suite and use of web-based forms and databases. Excellent writing and proofreading skills.

Prior experience (one or two years) in interpreting and ensuring compliance with federal regulations and institutional policies is desirable, preferably in a University setting within an academic research environment.

The following PA Act 153 clearances and background checks may be required prior to commencement of employment and as a condition of continued employment: PA State Police Criminal Record Check, FBI Criminal Record Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance.
