Position Description

The Department of Neurological Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh is seeking an experienced Data Scientist to serve under the direction of Dr. Mark Richardson, Brain Modulation Lab Director, to provide support in the following areas:

• Working with Pitt and UPMC’s IT to facilitate network configurations for lab computing environment; managing backups; designing, implementing, and maintaining hardware infrastructure (server, storage, racks, etc.); assisting with data sharing between collaborators.
• Conducting an inventory of current data (Dropbox, Synology, REDCap, etc.); assisting the team with documentation and transitioning to new systems.
• Designing relationship database(s) and file shares to be the central data repository for lab (i.e. the “Brain Modulation Lab Research Data Warehouse”); creating and maintaining ETL to automate loading data into warehouse when possible/as appropriate; conducting inventory and maintaining dictionaries for different data storage and formatting standards for easily transforming data.
• Keeping lab apprised of new tools, reviewing existing tools; providing a high-level overview of lab data (e.g. for purposes of grants, potential collaborations, etc.); assisting with analyses and proposing research questions.

Proficiency in the following programs:
• Relational database design (Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Enterprise or similar)
•ETL (Microsoft SQL Server Integration Services or similar)
•Signal analysis (MATLAB 2017a or similar)
