Position Description

The UPCI Biostatistics Department at the University of Pittsburgh is seeking a Biostatistician to work at the Sterling Plaza as a part of the Biostatistician Facility of UPMC’s Hillman Cancer Center.

Duties of the incumbent will include:
- Providing pre-clinical and clinical biostatistics and bioinformatics support to researchers under the supervision of senior biostatisticians to explore the relationships between germline and somatic mutations to DNA that drive the initiation and recurrence of cancer.
- Conferring with senior and key personnel regarding research needs and methods.
- Designing, implementing, maintaining, and updating statistical programs and scripts in SAS R and BioConductor.
- Collaborating with investigators to design statistical analysis plans, protocols, and studies to develop testable hypotheses.
- Recommending strategies for creation, completion, and analysis of research projects.
- Working independently to perform, analyze, and interpret statistical analyses and determining experimental processes and data analysis methodology.
- Presenting results to research teams and explaining statistical concepts to collaborators in a variety of disciplines.
- Identifying and correcting data problems.
- Supporting Grant Writing.
- Preparing technical reports and peer-reviewed publications.

Job Requirements: Master’s degree or foreign equivalent in Biostatistics or Statistics. Must have knowledge, through coursework or experience, of: (i) biostatistical and bioinformatical analysis and methodology; (ii) analysis of gene expression, proteomic, genetic, or other genomic datasets; (iii) statistics theory and application; (iv) clinical trials; (v) medical and/or epidemiological research and working knowledge of molecular biology to perform analyses; (vi) clinical and laboratory research methodology; (vii) programming in C, SAS, R, and BioConductor; (viii) Linux system and Shell scripting; and (ix) FORTRAN.
