Position Description

The University of Pittsburgh’s Department of Pharmaceutical Science qualified Department Administrator. This position will manage the administrative affairs of the department by providing expertise in the areas of department Chair support, office administration, and special events.

The incumbent is to provide high-level support to the department through project management of highly visible projects, managing complex administrative demands such as keeping the Chair prepared for meetings and events, drafting and proof-reading department Chair correspondence, and planning internal and external meetings. This individual must be highly organized and provide oversight for all ongoing projects, assure deadlines are met, and ensure that the projects effectively move according to their objectives.

The incumbent must be able to communicate and enforce departmental policies and procedures as well as be responsible for the supervision of administrative staff. The individual in the position serves as a back-up on space management and international appointments. The position requires the ability to perform at a high-level with minimal supervision, have a professional demeanor, and be able to handle difficult situations with tact and diplomacy.

Bachelor’s degree required. Advanced experience in progressive administrative roles with supervisory responsibilities preferred. Equivalent experience may be substituted for degree requirement.

The following PA Act 153 clearances and background checks may be required prior to commencement of employment and as a condition of continued employment: PA State Police Criminal Record Check, FBI Criminal Record Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance.
