Position Description

The University of Pittsburgh is seeking a Senior Research Technician for the Center for Vaccine Research.

The incumbent will be responsible for conducting independent methods and procedures for research involving non-human primates and small laboratory animals in Biosafety Level 2 and 3 environments.

Responsibilities will include but are not limited to, designing and conducting independent studies, analyzing, preparing and presenting data, performing advanced biochemical and molecular biology techniques and maintaining tissue culture lines.

Techniques include, but are not limited to Flow-cytometry staining, sequencing, cell separation, functional studies, methods in recombination DNA cloning, PCR, RT-PCR and protein purification. Independently initiate and troubleshoot research protocols, handle and manipulate non-human primates and small laboratory animals for organ retrieval, RNA isolation and other necessary procedures and treatments, supervise and train other professional research personnel in specialized techniques, operate and maintain laboratory equipment, maintain thorough documentation of laboratory results and order and maintain laboratory supplies.

Minimum Related Experience Level Required 2-3 years experience
Additional Education and/or Experience Essential to the Position

Master’s Degree in Biology, Microbiology or similar field or Bachelor’s degree plus equivalent work experience. Experience with BSL2 and 3 pathogens preferred.

The following PA Act 153 clearances and background checks may be required prior to commencement of employment and as a condition of continued employment: PA State Police Criminal Record Check, FBI Criminal Record Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance.
