Position Description

The University of Pittsburgh is seeking a Research Technician to perform behavioral experiments and histological staining in a mammalian specimen model. The responsibilities will include (but not limited to) organizing experiments and performing behavioral tests such as Morris water maze, fear conditioning, and motor tests. The technician will also perform histological tissue staining. Occasional weekend work may be required.

The technician will confer with Principal Investigators in determining specific experiments to be included in the research protocol and enter the collected data into a dedicated database. The technician will assist in data processing, statistical analysis, and graphic presentation of data. Additional responsibilities include: preparing and disposing of reagents necessary for research and maintaining lab inventory, including the timely ordering of required supplies. The technician will be expected to conduct difficult/complex lab testing, develop methods and procedures to be used in research protocols and experiments, aid with grant proposals, reports, and research publications.

A Bachelor’s degree and laboratory experience is preferred, but not required. This position is located at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC in Lawrenceville. TB test and PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record Check, and FBI Criminal Record Check will be required as a condition of employment.
