Position Description

The Associate Director for Grant Operations is a key team leader responsible for overseeing the Grants Management Services Team within the Office of Research. Candidate will be responsible for supervising staff, streamlining processes, overseeing proposal review and negotiating complex and politically sensitive agreements, training, and liaising with other central offices and University General Counsel. Serves as a resource for team and ensures appropriate professional development and leads team to work collaboratively within the Office of Research as well as with other central University offices, other academic institutions, and sponsors. With the Senior Associate Director and the Associate Vice Provost for Research Operations, promotes a positive culture of change. Must have keen understanding of university and sponsoring agencies’ priorities in relation to grants and nonprofit agreements. Must have demonstrated facilitation and communication skills and ability to work with individuals of all levels to develop and accomplish shared goals. Position requires strong interpersonal skills, exercise of appropriate tact and discretion, as well as ability to prioritize multiple tasks. Ensures team coverage and cross-training, as well as opportunities for process improvement. Must have experience in federal grants and non-profit agreements and non-financial agreements related to them. Must be detail oriented and able to prioritize multiple projects for self and staff of 15+. At discretion of Senior Associate Director, individual will be asked to develop policies and procedures and participate in ad hoc committees on behalf of the office.

Minimum Related Experience Level Required 3-5 years experience
Additional Education and/or Experience Essential to the Position

Bachelor’s Degree required, but Master’s Degree preferred. Knowledge of contractual provisions pertaining to sponsored programs is a must. Excellent and tactful written and oral communication skills and interpersonal skills are mandatory. Knowledge of Windows PC applications required.

The following PA Act 153 clearances and background checks may be required prior to commencement of employment and as a condition of continued employment: PA State Police Criminal Record Check, FBI Criminal Record Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance.
