Position Description

The University of Pittsburgh’s Ophthalmology Research Department is seeking a qualified Research Technician. This position is for a research laboratory which is under the direction of Dr. Robert L. Hendricks. The position is only guaranteed for 8-months but will be renewed depending on pending mutual satisfaction and the availability of funds.

The focus of the laboratory’s research is on ocular infections of HSV-1. The technician will be responsible for assisting and taking direction from our senior scientist. Duties include (but are not limited to) the purification of DNA, RNA, and protein; DNA cloning; RT-PCR and PCR; gel electrophoresis, quantification of DNA and RNA, western blots, and ELISA. The individual should already have knowledge on performing these particular assays. The incumbent must be able to work independently with an emphasis on organization and attention to detail.

Additional Education and/or Experience Essential to the Position

The individual must have at least 1-2 years of experience doing purification of DNA, RNA, and protein as well as DNA cloning; RT-PCR and PCR, gel electrophoresis, western blots, and ELISAs.

The following PA Act 153 clearances and background checks may be required prior to commencement of employment and as a condition of continued employment: PA State Police Criminal Record Check, FBI Criminal Record Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance.
