Job Summary

The University of Pittsburgh is seeking a Rec Facility Attendant. This position is responsible for the overall supervision of the facility, participants, and programs while he/she is on duty. The student worker is also responsible for enforcing all rules and regulations established for the participants by Pitt Rec and for the operation of the facility under the prescribed operating procedures. While on duty, the Facility Attendant will be the representative of the professional staff and the University. He/she will have to take control in emergency situations, settle disputes, and answer inquiries. Common sense, responsibility, dependability, maturity, and visibility are keys to being an effective and efficient Facility Attendant.

Primary duties include, but are not limited to:
- Greeting patrons that enter the facility with a “Hello” and a smile.
- Providing courteous service.
- Acting as a first responder in case of any emergency.
- Recording and reporting incident forms.
- Answering general questions and phone calls regarding rec facilities.
- Being familiar with the services that the facility offers and being able to explain it to the users.
- Preparing the facilities for opening/closing.
- Controlling access to rooms, equipment, and the facility.
- Checking facility schedules regularly.
- Every half hour or hour: conducting head counts and fitness center inspections.
- Enforcing posted facility policies with non-compliant users.
- Re-racking weights that have been left on bars or the floor and putting equipment back in the proper place.
- Performing equipment rentals.
- Possibly assisting with the maintenance/repair of the exercise equipment.
- Filling out and completing the detailed cleaning log daily.
- Maintaining professional gym attire (required uniform).
- Running end of shift’s daily Audit Reports, if necessary.
- Lifting up to a 45-lb plate to re-rack in the proper location without assistance.
- Clocking in and out of shifts and submitting hours weekly
- Other duties will be as assigned.

Job Requirements

CPR/AED Certification or obtain it within the first month of hire.
• Pitt student in good standing with the University.
• Ability to maintain a routine weekly work schedule for an entire semester.
• Attend required in-services and training(s) each semester.
• Willingness to work weekends and open shifts.

Child Protection Clearances

The following PA Act 153 clearances and background checks may be required prior to commencement of employment and as a condition of continued employment: PA State Police Criminal Record Check, FBI Criminal Record Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance.
