Position Description

The University of Pittsburgh is seeking a Director of Sponsored Projects Accounting. This position reports to the University Controller. The incumbent must possess knowledge of the sponsored projects regulatory environment, including the OMB’s Uniform Guidance, NIH Grants Policy Statement, and the Federal Acquisition Regulations. Knowledge and experience with automated general ledger applications are required.

The position manages a staff of 17 professionals, including all hiring and staff development. The incumbent must possess excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) and must be able to work in a collaborative, team-oriented environment. Striving for continuous process improvement is critical. The candidate must have outstanding problem-solving skills and be able to interact with all levels of staff and management throughout the University, including department administrators, faculty, senior management, general counsel, and Internal Audit.

Additional Education and/or Experience Essential to the Position

A minimum of 10 years of experience in a sponsored projects accounting/administration environment is preferred, along with at least 5 years in a management role.

Required Licenses/Certifications

CPA certification and/or an MBA is preferable. These requirements are preferred due to the highly complex nature of accounting for sponsored project awards and the specialized knowledge necessary to understand and interpret federal, state, and local cost compliance regulations.

Child Protection Clearances

The following PA Act 153 clearances and background checks may be required prior to commencement of employment and as a condition of continued employment: PA State Police Criminal Record Check, FBI Criminal Record Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance.
