Position Description

The University of Pittsburgh’s Chemistry Department is seeking a qualified Research Specialist. This position will work in a chemical laboratory with state-of-the-art organic synthesis, analytical, and combinatorial chemistry instrumentation; the incumbent will mainly be performing medicinal chemistry and organic synthesis. Job responsibilities also include the synthesis, purification, analysis, storage, and distribution (on- and off-campus) of library compounds using specialized instrumentation and technical protocols, and direct consultation and interaction with internal and external researchers on compound handling and use. The incumbent will also be responsible for biochemical assays, training new users, and performing routine maintenance of instrumentation. Experience in organic synthesis, chemical and scientific databases, computer programs, strong written, email, and phone correspondence, instrumental analysis, and analytical chemistry are highly preferred.

Experience in analytical chemistry, organic synthesis, isolation and compound characterization required. Administrative experience. Experience conducting analyses using highly specialized instruments and techniques including NMR, IR, MS, LC-MS, HRMS, and other applicable spectroscopic techniques.
