Position Details

The Department of Hispanic Languages and Literatures of the University of Pittsburgh is seeking applicants for a Lecturer qualified to teach advanced language and literature courses for Spanish majors. The ideal candidate would hold a PhD in Hispanic Literature or Applied Linguistics, and a serious commitment to undergraduate education, evidence of engagement with curricular innovation, and interest in developing new language courses with a communicative, task-based language instruction approach. Knowledge of proficiency-based assessment and ACTFL standards is desirable. Experience in one or more of the following areas is highly desirable as well: coordination of multi-section courses, training teachers and/or graduate student teaching assistants, language assessment and technology­ enhanced language learning

This position is outside the tenure stream and would begin in Fall 2018, pending budgetary and administrative approval. The initial appointment will be made for a one-year period and will be renewable. Subsequent reappointment may be for periods of up to three years. Native or near native fluency in Spanish is required. The teaching load is six courses per academic year, salary competitive, and the appointment includes the ability to advance within rank. The course load will be reduced depending on the language coordination and other duties assumed.
