Position Details

The Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Pittsburgh invites applications for three full-time Lab Instructor positions on 8-month bases in Foundations of Biology Labs with anticipated start dates of 27 August 2018. These positions are outside of the tenure stream and subject to annual review. Applicants must have an MS or PhD in biology. The courses include both guided inquiry and authentic research lab experiences for early career undergraduates.
The positions entail teaching either 4 sections of two different lab courses, or 5 sections of one lab course, each semester. In addition, services will be provided to the leadership team, including writing quizzes and assignments, reviewing content of student assessments, and leading small groups during instructor training sessions. Administrative duties could substitute for some teaching and would include overseeing preparation of media and reagents, training and supervising student workers, evaluating equipment and supplies prior to purchase, overseeing repair of existing equipment, and troubleshooting new lab procedures.
