Position Description

The University of Pittsburgh is seeking a Front-End Web Developer. This position will be responsible for a variety of duties related to designing, coding, testing, configuring, and deploying content and front-end functionality to the Office of Admissions & Financial Aid (OAFA) websites. The Front-End Web Developer’s primary role will be to work directly with other OAFA systems developers to implement technical solutions to support OAFA’s web presence.

Responsibilities of the incumbent include:
• Technical expert for implementation efforts on large web deployments – makes technical recommendations for more efficient issue resolution.
• High-level understanding of programming, markup, and scripting languages.
• Applies defined web development standards and techniques to ensure efficient program logic and data manipulation.
• Works with cross-functional team members to develop page layouts/designs and dynamic solutions for OAFA websites.
• Develop features across multiple subsystems within our applications, including collaboration in requirements definition, prototyping, design, coding, testing, and deployment
• Investigate, analyze, and passionately drive technology improvements, upgrades, and modifications
• Meets deadlines, prioritize appropriately, copes well with change, and maintains composure under pressure

Desired Skills and Experience from the incumbent:
• 3+ years of specific experience developing and deploying enterprise-level, large-scale websites, and website content.

Required Technical Skills:
• General Understanding of full-stack application development lifecycle.
• Strong with Drupal, WordPress, and other CMS platforms.
• Exceptional HTML5, CSS and SASS skills.
• Proficient in JavaScript, JQuery, AJAX, and JSON.
• Proficient in MVC, modular JavaScript, and REST-based APIs.
• Experience contributing front-end code to a consumer-focused web application.
• Strong SQL skills and MySQL/Relational DB Experience.
• Experience with JavaScript library or framework like ReactJS, AngularJS, etc.
• Intermediate experience in Linux / Unix environments.
• Experience with Git.

Preferred Technical Skills:
• Back-end development experience – PHP, .NET
• Mobile application development experience.
• UI/UX design experience with Sketch, Photoshop, or other applications.

Education Required Baccalaureate
Minimum Related Experience Level Required 3-5 years experience

Required Licenses/Certifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or Engineering
HTML5, CSS and SASS: 3 years
JavaScript, JQuery, AJAX, JSON: 3 years
MVC, modular JavaScript, REST-based APIs: 3 YEARS
PHP: 3 years
MySQL: 3 years

Child Protection Clearances

The following PA Act 153 clearances and background checks may be required prior to commencement of employment and as a condition of continued employment: PA State Police Criminal Record Check, FBI Criminal Record Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance.
