Position Description

The University of Pittsburgh is seeking a Laboratory Technician. This position is at the Starzl Transplantation Institute at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. Our research efforts are focused on understanding the mechanisms of immune rejection of transplanted organs in non-human primates, and to uncover ways to prevent this rejection. We are looking for a highly motivated, organized, fast-learning, and responsible person who is able to work both independently and as part of a team. The candidate will be required to have experience in sample analysis (e.g. by PCR and flow cytometry), maintain, and keep records of non-human primate samples and tissues, and be responsible for conducting small research projects. In addition, the candidate will be placing orders and maintaining inventory for the laboratory.

The candidate will provide some technical support for large animal procedures performed by the team, including post-operative care. This individual will also assist with the training of post-doctoral fellows and students, as well as with manuscript/grant preparation and technical protocol writing. This individual will collect and organize research data for analysis. Strong organizational skills and exceptional interpersonal skills are a must, as the candidate will directly interact with the Principal Investigator, colleagues, and other collaborating researchers. A bachelor’s degree in biological sciences or a related field is required.

Bachelor’s degree plus 2-5 years of laboratory experience in biology techniques.
