Position Description

The University of Pittsburgh is seeking a Digital Accessibility Coordinator who is passionate about accessibility and about helping to make online resources available to everyone. The Digital Accessibility Coordinator (DAC) reports to the Vice Chancellor of Diversity and Inclusion and provides leadership and coordination of the University of Pittsburgh’s commitment to accessible electronic information technology. The DAC will partner with colleagues throughout the University community to promote, access, inform, train, and coordinate compliance with the governing authority on digital accessibility including Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act Amendments of 1998 and the American with Disabilities Act and its amendments.

The DAC will act as the primary liaison with University leadership and community, and external stakeholders, on issues of accessible electronic information technology. The DAC will provide guidance and resources to University personnel, who are partners in ensuring that the University is meeting government mandated accessibility standards.

In conjunction with a University committee dedicated to accessibility that will be established, the DAC will develop and coordinate a compliance program and a robust and sustainable model that serves the entire University community (faculty, staff, students, interactive public, etc.); assist in developing and implementing University policies, procedures, guidelines, and processes for digital accessibility compliance; engage in compliance oversight of accessibility initiatives with relevant federal, state, and local regulations; develop an internal review program for digital accessibility compliance; and develop, coordinate and implement training and education programs.

The DAC will develop processes so that University partners can strive to regularly monitor and evaluate programs, policies, guidelines, and procedures to ensure their effectiveness and to identify opportunities for improvement and/or the necessity of updates in accordance with federal regulations and for the development of the best practices.

Minimum Related Experience Level Required 5-6 years experience
Additional Education and/or Experience Essential to the Position

Bachelor’s degree in information science, library science, educational or instructional technology or a related field and 5-6 years in the application of computer, web-based, and assistive technology such as Drupal and WordPress.

Must demonstrate progressive experience in implementation of accessibility initiatives. Must demonstrate exceptional interpersonal as well as written and verbal communication skills to effectively communicate with multiple and diverse populations. Strong organizational, analytical, and judgment skills required.

Experience in application of assistive and/or adaptive technology as it pertains to persons with disabilities is strongly preferred. Experience in a higher education environment is strongly preferred.

The following PA Act 153 clearances and background checks may be required prior to commencement of employment and as a condition of continued employment: PA State Police Criminal Record Check, FBI Criminal Record Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance.
