Position Description

The Division of Pulmonary, Allergy, and Critical Care Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh is seeking a Laboratory Technician in a state-of-art internationally recognized pulmonary research program in the area of pneumonia and sepsis. Under the supervision of the senior scientist, the incumbent will be responsible for various day-to-day activities in order to maintain the lab. These activities include making stock solutions, initiating, and tracking purchase requests; organizing and tracking chemicals, supplies, and equipment; and performing weekly radiochemical assays. The incumbent will also be responsible for performing laboratory techniques such as immunocytochemistry, western blots, PCR, cell culture, rodent manipulation, and DNA/RNA extraction. The incumbent must have a good knowledge of laboratory skills, a high level of self-sufficiency, and must be able to work independently. Appropriate supervision is provided. Meticulous work habits, dependability, and good communication skills are required.

Bachelor’s degree in biologic or chemical science, preferred.
