Position Description

The Division of Hematology and Oncology in the Medicine Department at the University of Pittsburgh is looking for a qualified Senior Laboratory Scientist. The incumbent will develop a clinical program of vaccinating hematopoietic stem cell donors against minor histocompatibility antigens as an approach for improving the outcomes of allogeneic blood and marrow transplantation.

The Senior Laboratory Scientist will be responsible for identifying published minor histocompatibility antigens, determine which are relatively restricted to the hematopoietic system. validate the expression and natural presentation of the miHA peptide, and prioritize the known miHAs. Additional job duties will be to: (1) develop DNA-based methods for identifying minor histocompatibility antigen alleles and determine the frequency of these alleles in Pittsburgh and the surrounding areas, (2) develop methods for vaccinating against minor histocompatibility antigens which could include peptide plus adjuvant or dendritic cell-based approaches, and (3) develop methods for measure T-cell responses to these antigens.

PhD and/or MD. If an MD, must have at least 5 years of wet lab experience in related disciplines. If a PhD, must have at a minimum received the PhD in immunology with work relevant to the project.

Alternatively, PhDs may have completed a thesis in a different area, but must have had sufficient postdoc training to have the skills and track record relevant to this project.
