Position Description

The University of Pittsburgh is seeking an Academic Administrator. This position provides academic services and information to students, parents, staff, faculty, department heads, deans, and offices inside and outside the Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences who inquire about the Dietrich School’s academic policies and procedures, as well as policies and procedures relating to the College of General Studies’ (CGS) external transfer students.

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to): determining course equivalencies for external students transferring into CGS; maintaining CGS transfer credit evaluation reference guides; acquiring graduation applications from students and performing first, second, and final analyses of those applications; assessing the accuracy of the graduation roster in conjunction with the Director; and collaborating with departmental faculty, the Office of Admissions, and the Provost’s Office, when necessary.

The incumbent must show discretion with academic documents. He/she must have excellent communication skills, analytical skills, exhibit sound judgment, and flexibility to work in a busy, sometimes demanding environment.

Additional Education and/or Experience Essential to the Position

Masters degree preferred or an equivalent combination of education and experience, including a Bachelors degree. Knowledge of College of General Studies and Dietrich School policies and procedures. Ability to communicate clearly — written and verbal skills are essential. Ability to work well with students, parents and faculty. Must have strong organizational skills. Microsoft software experience required.

The following PA Act 153 clearances and background checks may be required prior to commencement of employment and as a condition of continued employment: PA State Police Criminal Record Check, FBI Criminal Record Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance.
