Position Description

The Department of Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh is seeking a Behavioral Therapist to work on clinical research opportunities in a multidisciplinary setting. The primary responsibilities will include providing evaluation and treatment to patients in an ongoing NIH-funded randomized controlled trial, testing a collaborative care intervention. The incumbent will also have the opportunity to assist with ongoing manuscript preparation and grants.

Responsibilities include the evaluation and treatment of patients using cognitive behavioral therapy in the dialysis units. Additional responsibilities include the management of intakes, progress notes, and communication with the healthcare team. The position will also include working with data, including recoding data. As part of the research responsibilities, the incumbent will also be involved in literature reviews, writing, and editing. The Behavioral Therapist will also assist with research-related activities (e.g. delivering samples, etc.).

The organizational impact of this position will be significant with regard to research and the operation of the workgroup. The Behavioral Therapist’s position consists of broad responsibilities requiring the application of policies to dynamic and complex conditions including the comorbid factors, including a diagnosis of end-stage kidney disease, treatment side effects, and psychiatric symptoms. Some problems may require significant analysis and judgment and solutions may include adapting existing practice to new systems. The Behavioral Therapist will interact with staff inside and outside the University and may include interpreting and explaining issues, and providing assistance with problem-solving. The Behavioral Therapist will not likely work with any financial aspects of the project.

This position requires flexibility in schedule and may occasionally need to conduct online video therapy sessions from home in the evenings or weekends. The candidate must be willing to travel to other sites within 30-45 minutes of the main campus 1-2 days per week.

Education and training in clinical health psychology or related field (e.g. social work, counseling, and psychiatric nursing). The candidate may hold a Master’s degree or PhD and experience working on a clinical research protocol is preferred.
