Position Description

This Research Assistant will assist in running an imaging facility. Duties include maintenance of microscopes and computers, record keeping, ordering, training users on equipment and ensuring proper of equipment. Specific interest in computers, microscopic imaging and image analysis and background in scientific imaging, programming, graphics and analytic software is desirable. Ability to lift 30 pounds is required. This individual must be extremely dependable, detail-oriented, highly organized, self-motivated, patient and interact well with others. Ability to work effectively with computers and to learn new applications is required. This position involves working with research faculty and staff, students, and volunteers. TB test and PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record Check and FBI Criminal Record Check will be required as a condition of employment.

Minimum Related Experience Level Required 1-2 years experience
Additional Education and/or Experience Essential to the Position

Undergraduate degree in life sciences, computer sciences or biomedical visualization, or equivalent experience. Familiarity with microscopes, scientific imaging and image analysis. Experience with volumetric imaging. Experience developing and troubleshooting image analysis desirable.

Experience working with precision instruments and laboratory equipment and maintaining computer data. Research experience desirable. Experience working in a multi-cultural research environment.

The following PA Act 153 clearances and background checks may be required prior to commencement of employment and as a condition of continued employment: PA State Police Criminal Record Check, FBI Criminal Record Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance.
