Position Description

The University of Pittsburgh is seeking a qualified Clinical Research Coordinator in the Department of Medicine.

This candidate will work on clinical trials in the Division of Renal-Electrolyte, Department of Medicine, including the planning, design and execution of any future new clinical studies. The Clinical Research Coordinator will assist with the preparation of deliverables, including progress and final reports. The duties require some knowledge of grant and contracts, IRB procedures and requirements, and NIH regulations and Clinical trial regulations. The candidate will also be responsible for performing recruitment, evaluation and screening, regulatory and oversight, maintenance of data integrity, and coordination of research procedures.

Additional duties include ensuring the protection of human subjects participating in research and protection of patient confidentiality. Candidate may perform phlebotomy. They will perform patient assessments, give instructions to patients, and monitor their results. The candidate will be responsible for conducting coaching/health education sessions (after adequate training) for research participants.

The ideal candidate will possess a Master’s Degree in a research or health related field. A Bachelor’s Degree will be considered if length and relevance or prior experience, as well as an established track record, indicate the candidate’s overall capability and specific suitability for the position. Selected candidate must have a minimum of three years of experience in a clinical research setting.

This position requires excellent organizational skills and a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail, the ability to multitask, with flexibility in assuming assignments, as well as the ability to work independently. Communication skills and confidence in speaking with patients is essential for this position. The ideal candidate will be familiar with the research process, budget management, IRB and NIH procedures and regulations, as well as be attentive to confidentiality and ethical issues.

Required Licenses/Certifications

It is preferred that the candidate have a professional nursing license and have a minimum of three years experience in a clinical research setting.

Child Protection Clearances

The following PA Act 153 clearances and background checks may be required prior to commencement of employment and as a condition of continued employment: PA State Police Criminal Record Check, FBI Criminal Record Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance.
