Position Description

The Department of Physics and Astronomy and the Department of Geology and Environmental Science at the University of Pittsburgh are seeking a shared Buyer. The Buyer position will be responsible for interfacing with vendors and purchasing at all levels across both departments. This includes reviewing and approving shopper carts in the PantherExpress system. In addition, the Buyer will coordinate the delivery of all large, capital purchases made by both departments and ensure that all capital purchases are properly recorded and tagged. The Buyer will also serve as the primary shipping agent for the two departments, arranging for any deliveries or returns required by members of either department. This position will also be responsible for creating and supplying fiscal reports related to purchasing within the departments as well as conveying and enforcing purchasing policies and procedures to members of both departments. Candidates must be proficient with the Microsoft Office platform software Experience using PantherExpress and PRISM software is greatly preferred but not required.

The successful candidate must have excellent communication skills (both oral and written), organizational skills, and be both comfortable with and proficient in the use of computers (i.e. Microsoft Office software, e-mail, electronic calendars, web content management programs). Familiarity with the University’s PantherExpress system would be extremely beneficial.
