Position Description

The University of Pittsburgh’s Department of Critical Care Medicine is seeking a Research Project Manager for projects related to critical care delivery in the United States. Primary job duties include managing the coordination of project activities, implementing and monitoring internal project procedures, and ensuring project deadlines are met.

This position involves the day-to-day management of single- and multi-site research protocols from inception through project completion. At the grant submission stage, the incumbent has primary responsibility for coordinating the grant submission, and may also assist with writing the proposal. The incumbent is responsible for collaborating with the PI and core service managers to prepare budget justifications and scopes of work as well as with the grant analyst to assure funds are allocated appropriately. The incumbent submits for Institutional Review Board approval and responds to any concerns raised by the IRB. The incumbent writes and compiles the information necessary for annual reports required by the funding source. The incumbent supervises the project personnel at various sites ensuring compliance with the study protocol. Coordinates communication across all sites and documents decisions at meetings. This position will be responsible for multiple projects and requires the ability to adjust priorities frequently.

The incumbent must be adaptable, demonstrate initiative, motivation, be able to make good decisions in a hectic environment. He/She should have experience in the conduct of clinical research. Incumbent must possess knowledge of good clinical practice guidelines and procedures and the ability to independently manage and drive projects forward and to effectively solve problems. Incumbent must be highly analytical and possess good communication skills, both written and oral, be detail oriented and organized.

Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field and two years of experience in research setting required. Experience in a critical care research setting preferred.
