Position Description

The University of Pittsburgh, Department of Pediatrics, Division of Cardiology, Heart Institute, is currently recruiting a Clinical Research Nurse Coordinator (CRNC) to this nationally recognized research institution participating in many federally funded and industry-sponsored clinical trials. The CRNC will screen and enroll subjects for protocols in the clinical settings of the Division of Cardiology. The individual will assist the investigating physician(s)/Principal Investigator(s) (PI) with the preparation of regulatory documents, planning, subject recruitment, enrollment, scheduling, and study conduct. The CRNC will work closely on regulatory aspects with research coordinators in the Division/Department/University on the preparation of regulatory documents, planning, subject recruitment, enrollment, scheduling, and study conduct. The CRNC will train and mentor healthcare personnel about protocols and ensure protocol adherence under the direction of the PI. Strong communication skills are necessary.
Current PA RN licensure is required, BSN or bachelor’s degree preferred. At least 2 years of experience in coordinating clinical trials is necessary. Experience with heart disease is desirable.
Flexible hours (primary daylight with the possibility of some evenings and weekends depending on evolving study needs) is desired. If we are doing a drug trial there will be a need for the research nurse to be here outside of regular business hours, however, this would be uncommon.
The incumbent CRNC may be required to work evenings/weekends, for the same reason above, although uncommon.
Possible travel may be required if there is a multicenter trial that requires attending a certain meeting, but this is unlikely. Most of the training happens locally or via web.
This position is located at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC in Lawrenceville.
TB test and PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record Check and FBI Criminal Record Check will be required as a condition of employment.

Current PA RN licensure is required, BSN or bachelor’s degree preferred. Two years of experience in coordinating clinical trials necessary. CCRC certification preferred.
Regulatory experience within the University of Pittsburgh a plus.

Child Protection Clearances

The following PA Act 153 clearances and background checks may be required prior to commencement of employment and as a condition of continued employment: PA State Police Criminal Record Check, FBI Criminal Record Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance.
