Position Description

The Division of Pulmonary Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh is seeking a qualified Laboratory Technician in a state-of-art research program in the area of telomeres and lung disease. Under the supervision of the senior scientist, the candidate will be responsible for various day-to-day activities in order to maintain the lab. These include making stock solutions, initiating and tracking purchase requests, organizing and tracking chemicals, supplies, and equipment, and performing weekly animal colony maintenance. The candidate will also be responsible for performing laboratory techniques such as immunocytochemistry, western blots, PCR, cell culture, rodent manipulation, and DNA/RNA extraction. Candidate must have a good knowledge of laboratory skills, a high level of self-sufficiency and must be able to work independently. Appropriate supervision is provided. Meticulous work habits, good organization skills, dependability, and good communication skills are required

Understanding of basic lab techniques is required. Skill/experience with cell culture is desired. Previous experience with animal work is desired. Associates degree with 2 additional years of experience may be considered.
