Position Description

The University of Pittsburgh’s Department Biomedical Informatics is seeking a Senior Research Specialist. The Department of Biomedical Informatics is committed to improving biomedical research and clinical care through the innovative application of informatics. Currently funded projects explore areas such as causal inference, genomic and proteomic data mining, natural language processing, machine learning, and biosurveillance.

The incumbent Senior Research Specialist will work in DBMI, in support of statistical work overseen by Dr. Landsittel and other personnel in Dr. Landsittel’s lab. The Senior Research Specialist will work directly with Dr. Landsittel, and potentially with faculty outside of the department and/or outside of the University of Pittsburgh, to formulate and implement appropriate methods for the management and analysis of complex research study data. Other duties include assisting in manuscript and abstract preparation, complex statistical programming, and collaborating independently with other clinical researchers.

The Senior Research Specialist must possess expert knowledge of research methodology, and statistics in particular, in order to work with a high level of autonomy.

Minimum Related Experience Level Required 2-3 years experience
Additional Education and/or Experience Essential to the Position

Candidate must have a masters degree in biostatistics, statistics, or related field with additional knowledge of statistical packages (STATA and R). A combination of relevant experience and education may be substituted for a masters degree. 3 years of experience collaborating on medical research projects, particularly in the area of statistical design and analysis, and evidence of past collaboration.
