Position Description

The University of Pittsburgh’s Department of Med-Pathology division of Research Histology services is seeking a qualified candidate for the position of Lead Histotechnician or Histotechnologist. This person would be expected to fulfill all of the job duties of a histotech, including: maintain laboratory equipment, work with the histotechnicians to perform grossing, processing, embedding, sectioning, special stains, immunohistochemistry, and other routine lab tasks, work with customers to ensure timely turnaround of their jobs. The lead histotech would also be expected to supervise general lab functioning and performance of technicians and students. The lead histotech would be responsible for the development, implementation, and enforcement of policies as required to maintain the lab’s CAP certification. The lead histotech would also be expected to work with lab management on the development of SOPs for new projects. Periodic review of all procedures would be required to allow for continuous improvement of laboratory workflows.

If the incumbent has any of the following qualities, their application will be given priority: histotechnician or histotechnologist certification, experience in a research environment, 5-10 years of experience.

Histotechnician or Histotechnologist Certification. HT/HTL certification plus 5 years’ experience can be substituted for degree requirement.
