Position Description

The University of Pittsburgh’s Department of GSPH-Health Policy & Management is seeking a Data Analyst. The Data Analyst will provide programming support to multiple projects associated with the Medicaid Research Center at the University of Pittsburgh Health Policy Institute. Potential Medicaid projects will include long-term care program evaluation, analyses on housing and health care utilization, health profiles of vulnerable populations, pharmaceutical adherence, and geospatial analyses of health resources and public health needs. Supervised by Dr. Evan Cole, the incumbent will work with faculty members from all schools of the health sciences and other programmers on specific Medicaid projects. The incumbent Data Analyst will be responsible for managing large healthcare datasets and for creating specific analytic files and variables by using complex data analytic techniques to aggregate the data. The incumbent will also be responsible for performing standard statistical analyses, presenting results, and developing thorough documentation of the programming and results. Some assistance with presentations, reports and manuscripts preparation will be required. Ability to work in teams and possess strong communication skills required. Advanced expertise with programming in SAS a must. Proficiency in Stata, R and GIS (or similar mapping software) a plus. Masters in statistics, biostatistics or related field required along with the ability to conduct statistical analyses under the supervision of a senior statistician. Preference will be given to candidates demonstrating facility with data visualization techniques and software; experience using machine learning algorithms and social network analysis; and experience with very large healthcare datasets (claims, electronic health records) and housing (HMIS) datasets.

BS in computer science or related field, Masters in statistics or biostatistics strongly preferred. Must have experience with SAS and STATA programming and have a working knowledge of simple, descriptive statistical procedures. Experience with very large health care datasets is preferred.
