Position Description

The University of Pittsburgh’s Medical and Health Sciences Foundation seeks a qualified applicant to develop and implement comprehensive fund-raising strategies for direct identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of individual major gifts prospects. The Major Gifts Officer, Clinical Development may work with a particular hospital, department or program within the Medical Center on development projects or assignments.

The Medical and Health Sciences Foundation (MHSF) was officially created as the fundraising entity responsible for the joint philanthropic ventures of UPMC and University of Pittsburgh Schools of the Health Sciences. The MHSF acts as the central source for patients, alumni, and friends to contribute to any clinical or research endeavor at either or both UPMC and Pitt. The Medical and Health Sciences Foundation is seeking a Major Gifts Officer.

Minimum Related Experience Level Required 5-6 years experience
Additional Education and/or Experience Essential to the Position

At least five years’ direct fundraising/development experience preferred with specific track record in major gift solicitation, planned giving, and volunteer management. Other applicable work experience (especially positions in direct contact with customers) will be considered.

Bachelor’s degree required, master’s degree preferred; combination of education and experience may be substituted.

The following PA Act 153 clearances and background checks may be required prior to commencement of employment and as a condition of continued employment: PA State Police Criminal Record Check, FBI Criminal Record Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance.
