Position Description

The CRISMA Center, a research group in the Department of Critical Care Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh, is seeking a Senior Project Manager with an entrepreneurial spirit and a broad set of capabilities to lead several new initiatives that fuse elements from randomized clinical trials with big data analytics to further the exploration of precision medicine, personalized care research arcs, and the impact on the healthcare industry. The incumbent not only will be instrumental in providing high-level oversight of multiple federally and industry-funded research projects but he/she will also leverage the Center’s reputation for conducting leading-edge research to identify prospective collaborators and explore additional funding sources.

Responsibilities include development, recommendation, and implementation of project strategies, frequent interaction with prospective and existing sponsors and collaborators, serving as the lead resource for investigators and other affiliated study personnel, tracking the progress of various efforts, and generation of project reports and manuscripts. The incumbent may grow to include management of project-specific research personnel.

An innovative approach to solving problems, expert organization and attention to detail, and the ability to adjust priorities frequently are essential to success. Robust constituent-building, interpersonal, and communication skills are crucial due to frequent collaboration with professionals across all levels, from senior healthcare administrators and industry leaders to departmental faculty and investigators. The candidate must have, or be able to quickly develop, a thorough understanding of the scientific goals of all related projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in research, preferably in a prospective multi-center trial setting, with an understanding of big data analytics drawn from electronic health records.

Additional Education and/or Experience Essential to the Position

Master’s Degree in Healthcare Administration, Public Health, Business Administration, or similar field.

At least five years of experience in a research setting, or commensurate amount of education and experience in a clinical or research setting; experience in critical care medicine or health services research ideal.
The incumbent will be expected to operate independently, taking the initiative and exercising the judgment necessary to carry out responsibilities required to meet the established goals. Must be able to establish and maintain professional relationships as well as exercise professional judgment with internal and external contacts. Must remain aware of scope of project and present status to adequately discuss the project.
