Position Description

The University of Pittsburgh is seeking a Director of Facilities Operations who manages the Facilities Operations Services Group that is responsible for providing the “Best in Class” Facilities Management Maintenance Service for over 60 buildings with approximately 6,000,000 gross square feet of space and 145 acres.

The incumbent directly supervises the Senior Managers of Custodial Services, Building Trades, Operating Engineers, and Grounds. Through direction and supervision of his/her immediate reports, he/she manages a work force of professional trades, cleaners, operating engineers, and grounds crew. He/she oversees the use and development of TMA, the Facilities Management Work Order System.
Along with that, the incumbent monitors and advises Senior Facilities Management Administration on workload and staffing levels.

The incumbent is responsible for developing and updating a Facilities Services Guide and Facilities Emergency Response Manual and is responsible for the administration of all aspects of various service contracts including (but not limited to) Uniforms, Facilities Supplies, Solid Waste Management, and Recycling. He/she interacts with customers for issues related to the Facilities Services and is responsible for organizational level Human Resources activities including (but not limited to) hiring, firing, grievances, discipline, awards, and labor relations with the recognized Bargaining units.

Additional Education and/or Experience Essential to the Position

Degree in Business, Engineering, or related area, with major course work in property management, maintenance, or building services highly desired. Knowledge of the practices, equipment, and materials associated with commercial or institutional facilities services. Effective oral and written communication skills. Experience in implementation of computerized work order scheduling systems or knowledge and experience in implementation of other scheduling systems required. 10 years equivalent experience with managing the services group of a large university.

The following PA Act 153 clearances and background checks may be required prior to commencement of employment and as a condition of continued employment: PA State Police Criminal Record Check, FBI Criminal Record Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance.
