Position Description

The University of Pittsburgh is seeking a Resource Area Advisor who is the initial contact for all students to the Study Abroad Office. S/he is the first advisor with whom our students work prior to selecting their study abroad programming. As such, the Resource Area Advisor must know the entire scope of the organization’s programs, advise on the menu, and once a selection is made, pass the student to the respective program manager for the program of choice. The Resource Area Advisor must understand all of the outbound logistics through the application processes and be comfortable speaking with students and offices across campus. The Resource Area Advisor will remain a daily contact and provide oversight for undergrad interns in the study abroad office, the number of interns ranging from 4-8 in any given semester.

The Resource Area Advisor will also be the sole planner of the annual international fair, the Study Abroad Office’s major promotional event each academic year as well as participate in a variety of other promotional events throughout the year. The Resource Area Advisor will serve on the international week committee, performing the necessary functions to help the week run smoothly. The Resource Area Advisor will also be the primary contact for daily maintenance of the back-end content management system, TDS. S/he will be the primary point person for ordering office supplies and making general office requests for maintenance, room bookings, etc.

The Resource Area Advisor is the advisor to parents, high school students, and other visitors who routinely visit the office during University events and during visits to campus in the college decision-making process. The Resource Area Advisor will also assist in the facilitation of Study Abroad Office-related agreements along with walking them through the review and signature process.

Must have studied or traveled abroad. Having interned in a study abroad office or for a study abroad provider is preferred.

The following PA Act 153 clearances and background checks may be required prior to commencement of employment and as a condition of continued employment: PA State Police Criminal Record Check, FBI Criminal Record Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance.
