Position Description

The University of Pittsburgh is seeking a Program Director. This is a senior-level position as the Director of the Coulter Translational Partnership II (TPII) Program housed in the Department of Bioengineering. The overall responsibilities include increasing the quantity and quality of translational research and its outputs in medical devices and related health science therapies and to enhance collaboration in these areas within the Swanson School of Engineering, Schools of Health Sciences, Katz School of Business, the School of Law, and the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.

The Director develops and implements the best practices in the management and commercialization of medical technologies generated by the University faculty within the Coulter TPII Program. The Director works with faculty to develop and manage a portfolio of focused medical technologies and is primarily responsible for evaluating technologies for marketability, guiding technologies through regulatory compliance, implementing strategies for optimizing reimbursement, developing and executing commercialization strategies, and actively marketing discoveries to industry. Finally, the Director is involved in educating students and faculty as needed regarding medical translational research, as well its licensing and commercialization aspects in conjunction with the Innovation Institute.

MBA or Higher
Over 10 years’ business development and economic development experience focused on life sciences or healthcare technology. Must have the ability to cross the barriers of science, intellectual property law, finance, business planning, marketing, regulatory, and reimbursement among others, to effectively drive commercial innovation into the marketplace. Must have ability to formulate and close corporate deals and exhibit entrepreneurial and exceptional interpersonal skills. General knowledge about technology transfer and commercialization, patent and copyright process as it relates to early-stage technical inventions is required. Strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to work on multiple, complex transactions are essential.
