Position Description

The University of Pittsburgh is seeking a Research Technician who will assist in research involved in modeling the genetic etiology of congenital heart disease in mice. The main responsibilities include setting up matings, weaning mice, ear tagging, tail snipping for genotyping, conducting PCR genotype assays, and detailed record keeping of mouse pedigrees in the colony. Additional duties may include conducting embryo harvest and necropsies for the analysis of cardiac and other birth defects and carrying out imaging of mutant mice for phenotype analysis. Other responsibilities include arranging shipment of mice and preparation of amendments for Institutional Animals Use and Care use committee approval. Basic understanding of genetics and experience with mice handling is highly desirable. Use of ultrasound imaging for developmental staging of pregnancies in female mice will be as needed.

College degree in biology, biochemistry or related field is required. Previous research experience preferred, but not required.
