Position Description

The University of Pittsburgh’s Computing Services and Systems Development (CSSD) Department seeks a multidisciplinary communication professional primarily responsible for strategy, copywriting, and the management of marketing communication campaigns related to IT services, software, and cyber security within the University. Reporting to the Department’s Marketing Communication Manager, the Marketing Communication Lead serves as a primary liaison with internal CSSD clients to support timely communication that effectively presents technical information for major campus projects to non-technical audiences.

Key responsibilities include the development of new communication plans and/or the evaluation and enhancement of existing plans to increase awareness of CSSD and its services among the campus community. Skills in writing persuasive copy for print and online applications are also key. Additional duties include coaching colleagues on writing style, as well as creating and editing content for websites, social media, email messaging, and printed materials geared to students, faculty, and staff.

This position requires strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, along with the ability to think creatively to develop solutions for clients’ needs. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented with strong organizational and time management skills, displays independent self-direction, coupled with an aptitude for team collaboration, and an interest in advancing change. Candidates must also demonstrate expertise in copywriting, proofreading, and editing materials to ensure consistency and adherence to style guidelines, along with the accuracy of spelling, grammar, punctuation, organization, etc.

This position requires a bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, public relations, creative writing, or a comparable field from an accredited college or university and 5 to 10 years of related experience with traditional communication, digital marketing, and social media. The incumbent must also be proficient with Microsoft Office. Familiarity with Box document collaboration, DocuSign, Drupal, Photoshop, Salesforce Social Studio, and/or Qualtrics online survey software is a plus. A background in the information technology industry is preferred.

Bachelor’s degree in communication, marketing, public relations, or a comparable field from an accredited college or university with five or more years of experience in traditional communications, digital marketing, and social media.
