Position Description

The University of Pittsburgh is seeking an experienced (Ph.D. or equivalent), self-motivated Biomedical Scientist (Lab Track) with a demonstrated ability to conduct carefully designed biomedical studies using state-of-the-art methodology with minimal supervision and working in a dynamic drug discovery environment.

The individual should possess significant experience with molecular biology and X-ray biophysics, medicinal chemistry synthesis drug design, or animal experiments. The candidate must have computational statistical analysis, data interpretation, as well as be able to develop new methodologies, as needed. In addition, the candidate will have general oversight of the laboratory, be responsible for teaching techniques to/training new or more junior members of the lab, and must possess excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills. The successful candidate will be responsible for the chemical biology research of novel drugs targeting p62, cannabinoid CB2 receptor, p18, or GPCRs for the treatment of osteoporosis, neurological diseases, cancer, and/or hematopoietic stem cells.

Interested candidates should have strong working experience in one of the biomedical sciences and be able to demonstrate successful scientific writing skills (publications, grant writing, and other writings may be considered) and an ability to spearhead projects. Thus, the incumbent must be able to work independently and with others to prepare, review, and communicate (through oral presentations and writing of manuscripts) scientific data summaries and to assist with writing of grants. The incumbent will also be responsible for maintaining FDA regulatory documents of pre-clinical IND, NDA, and CDT applications to be compliant with FDA and ICH guidelines and with electronic submissions guidelines.

A PhD in one of the biomedical fields along with significant post-doctoral research (at least 3 years) experience in signal transduction, apoptosis/autophagy, drug discovery, and animal molecular biology that can be applied to projects in multiple myeloma, hematopoietic stem cells, traumatic brain injury (TBI) /Alzheimer’s disease (AD), and/or osteoporosis diseases, is required. Experience in X-Ray Biophysics, and/or medicinal chemistry or pharmacology/toxicology, or pharmacokinetics bioavailability that includes contributions to Investigational New Drug (IND), New Drug Applications (NDA) fro FDA and regulatory documents is a plus. Experience in protein expression using Baculovirus expression (sf9) system; IMAC, SEC and other novel purification protocols, as well as AKATA purification and LC-MS/MS systems to provide functional proteins (eg GPCRs, CB2) for assays and X-Ray crystallography structural characterizations will also be considered.
