Position Description

The University of Pittsburgh is seeking a Biostatistician. The person in this position will provide advanced statistical support to UPCI researchers under minimal guidance from senior biostatisticians within UPCI’s Biostatistics Facility.

Duties include: independently preparing statistical analysis plans; collaborating with investigators on grant and protocol development and study design; collaborating with clinical and laboratory personnel on the identification and correction of data problems; performing statistical procedures including, but not limited to, categorical data analysis, exploratory and graphical methods, linear and nonlinear regression, mixed models, logistic regression, survival analysis, and nonparametric methods; providing support in the preparation of peer-reviewed publications; keeping abreast of new developments in statistics, drug development, and regulatory guidance through literature review and attendance at seminars, workshops, and professional meetings; adhering to deadlines while handling multiple competing projects; supervising graduate students performing consulting services.

In-depth knowledge of data management systems (such as MySQL) statistical software packages (such as SAS and R) and methods of statistical analysis are required. Familiarity with basic human biology and epidemiology is also necessary. Familiarity with BioConductor and other software for genomic analyses is desirable.

The incumbent must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, especially the ability to explain statistical concepts to collaborators in a variety of disciplines. Must have a Master’s or Ph.D. degree in Biostatistics or a related discipline.

Master’s degree in Biostatistics or a related discipline required. Thorough knowledge of SAS, R, Excel, Word, and Powerpoint required.
