Position Description

The University of Pittsburgh’s Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI) is seeking a Research Assistant for the PA CARES for Us Research Program. The Research Assistant manages participant interactions, administers questionnaires, performs data and specimen collection, processes collected specimens, and participates in recruitment and screening. The incumbent will implement established standards for the preparation and maintenance of space for participant visits, visit tracking, sample management and handling, and the maintenance of laboratory space and equipment.
The mission of the PA Cares for Us Research Program, along with the other components of the Precision Medicine Initiative (PMI), is to leverage advances in genomics, informatics, and health information technology to accelerate biomedical discoveries in the hopes of yielding more personalized medical treatments for patients in the US.

As a member of the National PMI Consortium, PA Cares for Us Research Program plays a key role in setting national consortium research priorities and developing best practices for research on one of the most ambitious clinical research projects in history. The Obama administration’s PMI Cohort Program’s first goals are the establishment of a voluntary national research cohort of 1 million people or more and to obtain sequencing and other biological data for as many of those individuals as possible to uncover new insights into human biology and disease.

Bachelor’s degree preferred, OR Associates Degree with 1-2 years experience OR High School diploma with 2-3 years experience.
Phlebotomy experience preferred but not required.

The following PA Act 153 clearances and background checks may be required prior to commencement of employment and as a condition of continued employment: PA State Police Criminal Record Check, FBI Criminal Record Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance.
