Position Description

The Department of Medicine, Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism at the University of Pittsburgh is seeking a Research Coordinator who will work under the general direction and supervision of the Principal Investigator and Nurse Coordinator.

The Research Coordinator will be responsible for all aspects of clinical research/trial coordination for assigned studies conducted in the Division of Endocrinology and the Vascular Medicine Institute. The Research Coordinator will assist Principal Investigators (PI’s) with study design, implementation of study protocols, subject recruitment, consenting, scheduling and facilitating study visits, data collection, biological sample collection, processing, storage and shipment, and maintaining research documents, case report forms, and source documents.

Administrative tasks include facilitating meetings, answering queries, and handling invoices. Other duties will be required as assigned by the supervisor. Some involvement in clinic work will be required, including the performance of phlebotomy with minor laboratory skills, electrocardiograms, and other study procedures as mandated by study protocols. Strong communication skills are essential. Flexible hours may be necessary, given the uncertainty of subject flow.

Two years’ experience with research protocols or in a research work environment preferred. Experience in University of Pittsburgh processes and system preferred. Experience preferred in various patient testing methodologies (vital signs, research questionnaires, data collection etc.) Must demonstrate ability to communicate effectively with health care and research professionals. Good human relations, communication, and organizational skills required. Strong written communications skills required. Computer knowledge and skills required. Must be able to learn how to run blood samples and conduct quality control on the YSI instruments; how to process blood, conduct resting metabolic rates and assist with VO2max measurements.

The following PA Act 153 clearances and background checks may be required prior to commencement of employment and as a condition of continued employment: PA State Police Criminal Record Check, FBI Criminal Record Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance.
