Position Description

This position serves as the technical and administrative assistant to the editorial leadership team of the peer-reviewed scientific journal, Journal of Immunology and Regenerative Medicine, including the editor-in-chief, Dr. Stephen F. Badylak.

In this capacity, the employee will need to communicate with preeminent international scientists who serve as editors, authors, and reviewers. While the incumbent is not expected to be an expert in immunology, tissue engineering or regenerative medicine, s/he needs to have a background in science and be able to follow a scientific argument. Serving as the predominant point of contact for an editor, the employee will need to tactfully utilize his/her technical skills, as well as diplomatic and interpersonal skills, to meet the operational and deadline-driven requirements of the journal with a mutual goal of high quality (50%).

This position will also provide half-time administrative assistance, unrelated to the above Journal assistance, for the Deputy Director, Dr. Stephen F. Badylak, at the McGowan Institute for Regenerative Medicine by assisting his administrative team, and will report directly to the office manager. In this capacity, the employee will need to be highly motivated and detail oriented. The incumbent will assist in project specific coordination and communications (50%).

The individual should have experience in organizing interdisciplinary meetings, University travel policies, and manuscript submissions. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as strong organizational skills are required. Experience working with PC’s and standard software applications (e.g. PowerPoint, Word, Endnote) is necessary. Must be able to prioritize work and meet mandatory deadlines on a regular and timely basis.

The incumbent should have 1-2 years of relevant technical experience, as well as responsibilities that have honed the correspondence/technical writing skills. Experience/demonstration of good interpersonal skills is required.
