Position Description

The University of Pittsburgh’s Computing Services and Systems Development (CSSD) Department is seeking a NOC Technician.
This technical position will be responsible for monitoring, maintaining, and documenting the CSSD network operations center (NOC) infrastructure and related systems. This position utilizes tools, including end-to-end network views, service monitors, fault knowledge bases, and other case-based decision tools to view and interpret service alarms, apply problem isolation scripts, diagnose faults, and where possible, accomplish remote restoration of service.

The candidate for this position must be able to identify possible service faults and determine whether the problem can be immediately resolved or requires escalation to the appropriate engineering group. Flexibility, ability to work well under pressure, and excellent analytical skills are critical for success in this position. Position requires the ability to work rotating shifts to support a 24-hour, seven-day NOC operation.

This position requires the ability to think clearly under pressure and the ability to operate under high-stress conditions. This position will assist with maintaining and documenting the physical infrastructure components of the Network Operations Center systems. This position will be responsible for assisting with the Shipment and receiving of equipment to and from the University of Pittsburgh Network Operations Center.

Associates degree in networking preferred or the equivalent in experience.

The following PA Act 153 clearances and background checks may be required prior to commencement of employment and as a condition of continued employment: PA State Police Criminal Record Check, FBI Criminal Record Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance.
