Position Description

The University of Pittsburgh is seeking a Senior Executive Director of Corporate Engagement. This is a senior leadership position that is responsible for developing internal systems, establishing working relationships with other stakeholders in the University, and engaging corporations. The Senior Executive Director is expected to manage corporate relationships and execute strategies for solicitation of corporate prospects.

The mission of the Office of Corporate Engagement (OCE) is to positively impact the University’s educational, research, partnership, and economic development purposes by establishing holistic partnerships with the corporate sector to facilitate the transfer of benefits of the University’s educational and research capabilities to society. The vision for the OCE is to serve as a concierge for companies looking to interact with Pitt, to be a resource for faculty members and students as they work with companies, to assist with business development and alliance management resource to ensure relationships are identified and managed, and finally to broaden existing relationships to serve other University stakeholders. The OCE will collaborate closely with other Pitt offices and institutes to ensure that the University’s overall mission is achieved.

The ideal candidate will be an experienced facilitator of university/corporate partnerships and a self-starter who thrives on building innovative new relationships. The candidate will have strong relationship building abilities and be a sophisticated communicator with an ability to influence decision makers.

Minimum Related Experience Level Required 15+ years experience
Additional Education and/or Experience Essential to the Position

Fifteen (15) years plus of progressive responsibility in managing business development enterprise.

BS in STEM fields. MS, Ph.D., or relevant work experience in STEM fields preferred. MBA highly desirable.

Demonstrated problem-solving skills. Demonstrated ability to hire, motivate, and develop a team. Demonstrated ability to maintain effective relationships with internal and external partners.

Strong analytical skills with the ability to utilize data and develop metrics to improve performance and drive decision making.

Strong leadership, relationship-building, communication, negotiation, influence, organizational, and project management skills are essential.

The following PA Act 153 clearances and background checks may be required prior to commencement of employment and as a condition of continued employment: PA State Police Criminal Record Check, FBI Criminal Record Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance.
