Job Summary

Pittsburgh Festival Opera is seeking a Graphic Design Intern during for the 2017-2018 academic year. This is a great opportunity for a student to gain some professional experience and grow his/her/their portfolio. The Intern will create materials for events, digital graphics for social media, eblasts, website, and other projects as needed within the company’s graphic standards system and will work on special projects such as graphics for videos, slide shows, etc. Typical projects include: visuals for social media (banners, gifs, memes, etc.), fliers, posters/signs, simple event programs, advertisements, and graphics that employ the company’s vast archive of production photography.

Duties include:
1. Work with Marketing Director and other staff to develop visuals for cross-channel use—from digital graphics to files for print projects, participating as a team member in planning and execution of diverse projects.

2. Organize production schedules and meet assigned deadlines.

3. Create and update existing and new design files.

4. Edit and update text in design projects as needed.

5. Maintain the design art and final project files on an ongoing basis as well as organization of event and other photography.

Job Requirements

A passion for the arts.

Experience with Adobe Creative Suite 6 and other design programs on a Mac Platform.

Ability to solve design problems and make ‘best practice’ suggestions during the design process.

Ability to be self-directed but also able to work as a member of a team and to take direction well.

Excellent time management and multi-tasking skills.

Excellent communication and writing skills; the ability to project a professional demeanor with external constituents, especially on deadlines.

Photography skills helpful (iPhone or camera).

A car is helpful, but not essential.

Child Protection Clearances

The following PA Act 153 clearances and background checks may be required prior to commencement of employment and as a condition of continued employment: PA State Police Criminal Record Check, FBI Criminal Record Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance.
