Position Description

The University of Pittsburgh’s department of Nurs-Health & Community Systems is seeking a qualified candidate for the position of Research Assistant. The Research Assistant aids in a study evaluating impaired sleep in persons with Type 2 diabetes.

The incumbent will be responsible for screening and recruiting eligible participants with Type 2 diabetes for the study. This includes attending health events and/or fairs and distributing education to potential participants as well as conducting assessments according to a research protocol. In addition, this position will include assisting the PI, project director and research team with the daily tasks necessary for the operation of a research study such as filing, literature searches, copying assessments, etc.

Minimum Related Experience Level Required 1-2 years experience
Additional Education and/or Experience Essential to the Position

Knowledge of research process and the informed consent process including HIPAA regulations and other ethical issues as they pertain to research, particularly in a study involving participants with diabetes. This background knowledge is necessary as this person will be responsible for recruitment and data collection in a study that involves persons with diabetes.

Experience needed in interviewing and conducting basic research. Excellent communication skills are required. Basic computer literacy and word processing is required.

The following PA Act 153 clearances and background checks may be required prior to commencement of employment and as a condition of continued employment: PA State Police Criminal Record Check, FBI Criminal Record Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance.
