The University of Pittsburgh is currently seeking Tutors for Academic Support Service for Student Athletes (ASSSA) in the areas of Africana Studies, Anthropology, Astronomy, Business, Classics, Commerce, Computer Science, Economics, Geology, History, Philosophy, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology, and Spanish. ASSSA is designed to assist student athletes with reaching their fullest academic and personal development while at the University of Pittsburgh. The University, the Department of Athletics and ASSSA are committed to promoting both the academic and athletic achievement of its student athletes while upholding the academic integrity of the institution. ASSSA tutors provide individual and small group tutoring sessions in the subjects that the tutor has obtained a grade of at least a B or better and a 3.0 cumulative GPA. The goal of an ASSSA Tutor is to provide assistance to the student-athlete in specific academic course content as well as to foster the development of successful, independent and academic behavior.

Job Requirements

Your role as a tutor is critical to the overall success of our department. You are a part of our staff and must adhere to all the rules and regulations of the University of Pittsburgh, National Collegiate Athletic Association, Atlantic Coast Conference and ASSSA.
1.) Participate in a mandatory tutor training and Compliance session.
2.) Meet with student athletes requesting assistance in your area of expertise in an individual and/or group session.
3.) Facilitate learning and review course content.
4.) Evaluate student-athletes’ progression after each session.
5.) Communicate regularly with the Tutor Coordinator about all issues pertaining to student athletes.

Child Protection Clearances

The following PA Act 153 clearances and background checks may be required prior to commencement of employment and as a condition of continued employment: PA State Police Criminal Record Check, FBI Criminal Record Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance.

Hourly Pay Rate Undergraduate: $8.00/hr. Masters Graduate: $9.00/hr. PhD Graduate: $10
