Position Description

The University of Pittsburgh is seeking a qualified NOC Monitor Analyst. This is a technical position responsible for monitoring the CSSD network operations center (NOC) displays and information screens to identify system, application, and network faults. The primary responsibility of this position is to alert NOC system and network engineers and the Help Desk to problems as they are detected in order to initiate the appropriate response. Incumbent will follow established NOC processes to detect network and system faults. Work will be closely monitored by the NOC Monitor supervisor. This position utilizes tools including end-to-end network views, service monitors, knowledge bases, and other case-based decision tools to view and interpret service alarms, apply problem isolation scripts, diagnose faults, and where possible accomplish remote restoration of service. Flexibility, ability to work well under pressure, and excellent analytical skills are critical for success in this position. Position requires the ability to work rotating shifts to support a 24-hour, seven-day NOC operation. Solid general experience with a variety of operating systems and applications preferred.

Bachelor’s degree in computer science or information science is required.

This position requires the ability to think clearly under pressure and the ability to operate under high-stress conditions. This position is the first line of response for network, system, and server problems detected by monitoring equipment and systems and requires constant attention to detail.

Bachelor’s degree in computer science or information science preferred.
Candidate with two years experience with enterprise applications and network technologies desired. Solid general experience with a variety of operating systems and applications preferred.
