Position Description

The University of Pittsburgh’s department of GSPH-Human Genetics is seeking a qualified candidate to fill the role of Senior Research Specialist. As a Senior Research Specialist, the candidate will work in a vascular biology laboratory that uses both zebrafish and cell culture models to understand the molecular and cellular basis of vascular malformations.

The incumbent will be responsible for designing and building microfluidic devices and for performing live-cell imaging experiments to assess effects of mechanical force on endothelial cell behavior. Expertise in microfabrication, microfluidics, and live-cell imaging strongly preferred.

Candidate must be able to work independently, troubleshoot laboratory methods, analyze data, and contribute to manuscripts and grant proposals. Outstanding organizational skills required.
The position requires a Master’s degree in Bioengineering or related field and a history of productive, independent research.

Master’s degree in Bioengineering or related field. Consideration will be given to individuals with a combination of education and prior work experience with microfabrication, microfluidics, and dynamic imaging, and a history of productive, independent research. Basic cell culture techniques, and live-cell imaging required along with proficiency in basic molecular biology and antibody-based techniques required. Strong organizational skills and strong sense of responsibility required.
